Pipeline continuity under infrastructure failure

Problem

An authentication policy change severed the gateway connection between the enterprise data warehouse and the reporting layer, halting all scheduled refresh across executive dashboards. Leadership briefings depended on those dashboards, and the underlying access issue sat with another team on an uncertain timeline.

Approach

An interim extraction pipeline was designed and deployed to preserve reporting continuity while the underlying access issue was resolved, pulling from the warehouse on a schedule, staging locally, and feeding the existing reporting layer without any change visible to its consumers. The recovery was documented as a runbook so the response was repeatable rather than heroic.

Technologies

  • Python
  • Amazon Redshift
  • Power BI
  • Windows Server
  • Scheduled task orchestration

Outcome

Reporting continuity was maintained with no gap in executive-facing delivery. The interim pipeline ran until the gateway connection was restored, and the runbook remains the documented response for infrastructure interruptions of this class.
